Business Gets Green - Speaker Series - Tuesday, May 20

Speakers at the next 'Business Gets Green':

Jeffrey Berger, Lead Energy Director of Viridian Energy. Viridian is a mission based green energy company with over 200,000 customers. Viridian prides itself on being a socially responsible business that tracks it's sustainability and offers customers ethical options when sourcing their energy needs.

Jens Ponikauis, certified Geoexchange designer for Buffalo Geothermal Heating, a geothermal design and installment firm.  BuffaloGeothermal offers engineered systems for residential and commercial building.  He is an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association accredited geothermal installer with a degree from the University of Hamburg, Germany. After installing 120 geosystems abroad, he came here and helped found Buffalo Geothermal Heating in 2008.

Britney McClain, People United for Sustainable Housing PUSH, PUSH Green WNY is an initiative that promotes New York State energy efficiency programs in the west side of Buffalo. These programs offer a variety of options for individuals and families from various socioeconomic backgrounds to access improvements that reduce energy bills and make your home more comfortable. In addition, PUSH Green is promoting sharing this industry knowledge in the community and equipping people with the skills to enter the green work force.

Public Forum: Alternative Energy in the Buffalo-Niagara Region

Business Gets Green Speaker Series

 This event is free and open to the public

Representatives from three local companies in the renewable energy fields of solar, wind and geothermal power will present the obstacles and opportunities to advancing alternative energy systems in the Buffalo-Niagara region.

Featured Speakers:

Bill Nowak will speak on the Feed-In Tariff legislation and current developments in New York State to institute a better pricing system that promotes renewables. Bill will also touch upon the challenges for the company, Buffalo Geothermal in pushing through local geothermal projects. Bridget Reagan from Solar Liberty will come as a representative from our region’s largest solar panel installer. She will reveal what has helped made Solar Liberty successful and what needs to be improved upon to bring more solar energy potential to areas like Western New York. Kean Stimm, President of Kean Wind Turbines, will present on a new wind power system that will revolutionize the viability of generating power by using wind. Presentation: Geothermal Heating -- April 18

  • TOPIC: Everything You Wanted to Know about Geothermal Heating, but were Afraid to Ask!

Buffalo Geothermal is a geothermal design and installment firm offering turnkey solutions in residential and commercial applications. Currently, BGH installs between 50-60 systems per year in the Buffalo and Western New York area. They include open and closed systems, and horizontal, vertical, and pond-loop systems. 

A native of Germany, Mr. Ponikau designed and installed 120 geosystems abroad and brought this design knowledge to Western New York, where he helped found Buffalo Geothermal Heating in 2008. He has been teaching numerous seminars to architects and engineers on geothermal technologies, and also made public appearances an radio shows, schools and the home show to further educate the public. Mr. Ponikau is an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association accredited geothermal installer and a graduate of the University of Hamburg, Germany.
