Job Opportunity: Massachusetts Avenue Project is Hiring an Urban Farm Manager

Massachusetts Avenue Project (MAP) is THE place to get involved in addressing food insecurity issues in Buffalo!  And NOW is the time to get involved!  We are announcing an opportunity for interested parties to apply for a position as the new Farm Manager for our organization.

MAP is seeking a full-time Farm Manager to manage production and operations at its urban farm sites on the West Side of Buffalo, NY.  MAP farms using permaculture and other sustainable practices on 1.5 acres producing fruits vegetables herbs, chicken, eggs and tilapia.  The farm includes aquaponics and produce hoophouses, a chicken coop, rainwater catchment, compost, an outdoor harvesting and washing station and a farm stand.

Food grown is marketed through a Mobile Market targeting low-income consumers, as well as through a CSA, restaurant and other sale venues.  MAP annually employs and trains 40-50 youth, ages 14-20, in urban agriculture, food systems, microenterprise development and leadership.

MAP is a non-profit organization, where full-time staff and youth employees work together in a cooperative atmosphere.  Here, we work as a team to accomplish our mission which is to nurture the growth of a diverse and equitable community food system.

The Western New York Land Conservancy, a not-for-profit land trust, is now seeking a Community Engagement Director. The purpose of this new position is to significantly increase the public's engagement with the Land Conservancy's work. 

The Community Engagement Director will work with the Development Director and other Land Conservancy staff and board members to lead our citizen engagement and communications activities, and support our development work.

Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper seeks Executive Director

Buffalo Niagara RIVERKEEPER, a non-profit in WNY that promotes, preserves and protects the environments of the Buffalo Niagara Rivers, seeks an Executive Director. Oversees all aspects of the organization to support the mission and approved goals and policies of BOD.  Works closely with Development Director to cultivate new and existing relationships with stakeholders and networks as well as large donor, corporate and foundation fundraising, and the representation of the organization to the public. Position reports to BOD and controls operating and financial objectives, team development, oversees marketing, public relations, and fundraising development.  Effectively manages and develops the human resources of the organization, as well as programs for outreach and supporters. Ensures strict recordkeeping for financial records, grants, and all company assets.  Bachelor’s degree, seven to ten years experience with executive management. Advanced degree preferred. Candidates should have proven leadership, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, exceptional verbal and written communication, self-motivation, strong problem-solving ability, experience with business finances and HR, experience implementing strategic plans.

Seeking Social Media Assistant for GrowWNY Website

The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo (CFGB) is seeking a Social Media Assistant who loves the environment, and will blog, post status updates on Facebook and Twitter, and more for the GrowWNY.org website.  The Social Media Assistant is a full-time position offered in collaboration with The Service Collaborative of Western New York.  This position will report to CFGB’s Environmental Program Coordinator and will be responsible for working with CFGB to support the broader environmental community in Western New York.

The Community Foundation created the GrowWNY.org website to connect over 80 environmental organizations throughout Western New York with people concerned about the preservation and restoration of our regional environment.  Since the site’s launch in August 2010, more than 25,000 people have visited the site to find local news and information about the environment.  Ultimately, the goal of GrowWNY.org is to bring about positive change through enhanced communication and social media.  A great opportunity to practice your social media skills for a good cause, GrowWNY.org is the place for all things green in Western New York.
